Who are we?

Led by a pioneering spirit, Under The Pole expeditions aim at exploring the unknown through a bold approach and continuous innovation. After ten years and two expeditions, the team has pushed polar diving further than ever before and gained a unique expertise and an international recognition.

Backed by the French Ministry of Research and Education, Under The Pole has 4 main missions: research and development, science, documentary and education.

What will we do?

Yesterday’s challenge in ocean exploration was to dive deeper. Today, our new task is to dive longer in order to better understand how life spreads out in the oceans. That is one of the big challenges of the 21st century. True to its innovative DNA and its pioneering spirit, it is this vision that leads Under The Pole.

The next expedition Under The Pole III • 2017-2020 will be worldwide: 3 years of sailing around the world to revolutionize human presence underwater, which will lead to key discoveries about the hidden life of the oceans and a new underwater exploration technique.

The scientific work will focus on the study of the twilight zone, an little-explored area located around 100 meters below sea-level. We are set to solve two major questions: with pollution, climate warming and human activity, how life adapts to great depth when it is at risk near the surface? Are these deep waters playing the role of nursery to bring back life to shallower waters?
